What is Gothbench?
Gothbench is a collection of preferences settings, Workbench wallpaper
patterns, 4 and 16 color pointers, and IFF/8SVX system bell sound files
designed to give your desktop a Darker look and feel. I looked at the
preview for MagicWB, having heard much about it and was a little dissatisfied.
The palette was way too bright for my personal taste, and the patterns looked
a little dull, so I just made a palette that worked well with the icons in
more and more Aminet releases, and being a computer art major anyway, designed
background patterns, pointers, and so forth. I worked so hard on this
project and, if I may say so myself, was so happy with the results that I
decided to polish it up a little bit and release it as freeware.
There is an IFF/ILBM preview picture in the main directory with thumbnails
of all the wallpaper patterns and another with all the mouse pointers.
The sound files were acquired from Amiga demos and such; I believe they're
freely distributable. If you have a copyright on any one of them and object
to it being included in this package, please write/e-mail me at the address
below and I will gladly remove it. :)
-----
Requirements
Gothbench requires at least AmigaOS 2.0 and 512K of chip memory. AmigaOS3.0
or greater, 1 meg of chip, and a hard drive are highly recommended.
-----
Installation
Sorry, there's no installation script, as I don't have any docs on Installer
yet. If anyone has them and they aren't copyrighted, please mail them to
me. ;)
AmigaOS3.0+
1) If you want to keep your old settings, copy the SYS:prefs/env-archive drawer
to another called SYS:prefs/env-archive2 or something.
2) Copy the contents of the Gothbench/prefs drawer to Env-Archive:
3) Copy the other files anywhere on your hard-disk or floppy. (A good place
is in SYS:Prefs/Presets)
4) Run WBPattern in your workbench Prefs drawer.
5) Select Type:Picture and select a backdrop for your Workbench from the
Gothbench/Patterns drawer.
6) Select Placement:Windows, Type:Picture, and select a backdrop for disk/drawer
windows from the Gothbench/Patterns drawer. Click Save.
7) Run Prefs/Sound, and make sure Make Sound and Sound Type: Sampled Sound are
selected.
8) Click on Select Sample and pick a sound from Gothbench/Sounds to play.
9) If you have MCP, there are three 16-Color pointers in the Pointers/16col
drawer. See the MCP guide for selecting 16 color pointers, and make sure
you select the BusyPointer with the same number as your normal Pointer.
There are 4 color versions you can Paste into Prefs/Pointer in
Pointers/4col.
10) Reboot and enjoy!
AmigaOS <3.0
As above, except 4-6. To use the background patterns, I recommend using
Tapete, available on Aminet. However, I believe you'll have to remap them
with a good paint program as they're in 4 bit (16 color) greyscale, rather
than using the Gothbench palette.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gothbench is Gothware. If you make use of it, you must wear black all day the
day after you install it and mope around a lot. White makeup, lipstick, and
eyeliner will get you a free upgrade and a lot of second looks. ;)
It is not permitted to use the background patterns on World Wide Web pages
without my written consent. See "LEGAL JARGON."
